A bit of a learning curve
I grabbed this tool on the recommendation of a video I watched on properly caulking backsplashes. I consider myself pretty handy with DIY home reno stuff like this, but I still found this a challenging task to get perfect. I used it on silicone caulk. The video recommended spraying glass cleaner over the bead and tool before spreading, which I did not have, so I’m assuming it would have turned out better had I done as suggested. It was tricky to figure out which sized tip to use to achieve the look I was going for. And I couldn’t figure out how to lock the smoother forward, so I had to hold it a bit awkwardly to prevent it from slipping back and exposing the scraper. As far as my experience goes, caulk smoothing needs to be done in one continuous steady motion, which is very tricky when you have a 10′ long stretch to do. I also got caught on the seams at each tile, so I had to adjust my angle of approach so as not to get stuck and have a bump at each seam.Initially a rough couple of starts, removes, and restarts, but over all it did the job, though not perfectly. I’ve been informed since that painters tape would also aid in achieving that exacting and perfect look I was going for.Overall this is certainly better than the fingertip method, and I think the scraper will come in very handy when it comes time to remove and replace old caulk, so I do recommend this product.

Leaves a nice line when smoothing caulking
The tool leaves a nice bead of smoothed out caulking. The tool has a scraper that helps to push off the caulking that built up on thr head, but sometimes that liquid caulking can get caught under the scraper and builds-up into the the tools crevices that is hard to clean. I think the price is good for the end product. The tips simply slide on and off, and they are easy to clean.
